This book does just what it says. It provides a step by step guide on what to do when both partners discover sex addiction and need help. I was disappointed to see bad reviews considering much of the material covered is very complementary to the recovery material outlined in the workbooks found Recovering Couples Anonymous. This book explains the painful yet treacherous days of living through discovery of sex addiction including both partners’ perspectives and how to take steps to stop the sexual compulsive behaviors and moves toward how to communicate and rebuild trust. What is emphasized is that true healing will require both partners to commit to healing individually and also committing to the healing of the relationship. I can’t thank the authors enough for writing this.

I cannot express how refreshing it was to see how the problems that I have been dealing with my entire life and for the 26 years that I have been married were so eloquently laid out in this book. When reading this book Paldron breaks down in practical terms what a sex addict is and all of the behaviors associated. Once she has done this Paldron clearly lays out what is needed to be done to put back or in my case create the foundations of a healthy and functional relationship. The book is written in practical and day to day terms and is not theoretical. Being a sex addict for my entire adult life and having a dysfunctional marriage I feel this book has helped me find something I never had which is love and intimacy.

The book was a great guide of how to get through a challenging situation

Needs to be out in paperback. Too good to keep locked up electronically. Has practical exercises for discovering what went wrong in the relationship. Is honest enough to say women objectifiy themselves and each other. Includes flirting (advertising sexual availability) as sexualization behavior to be included in disclosure. Acknowledges that the immense pain of the partner and shame of addict are emotions to be processed repeatedly. Links how family of origin role modeling of relationships dictate present relationships in a simple way. Clear, actionable, comprehensive and hopefilled.

This book is a written in a straight forward, intelligent and organized style. The author tells it like it is with wisdom. The organization of each chapter not only makes for easy reading but provides clarity and comprehension of a most difficult situation that one faces in their life. I particularly liked at the end of each chapter how the author summarized and then offered what to expect in the next chapter. I will re read this book several times over until I can easily put to use the information provided. I thank the author for writing this book which I view as an anchor or life saving device to keep me afloat during these difficult times of reconciliation.

This work of historical fiction offers fresh perspectives on the War of the Roses, known also as the Cousins' War. The events unfold through the eyes of Katherine Woodville, sister to Queen Elizabeth, wife of King Edward IV of England. Due to her elevation in status through her sister, Katherine marries Harry Stafford, the Duke of Buckingham, and both are alternate narrators throughout the book. Katherine and Harry wed as children, but little else is know historically about Katherine. Yet, the author vividly brings both her and her husband to life, adding a very human element to those turbulent times.The story is well told, as each narrative melds into the next seamlessly, while unfolding for the reader the dramatic and fascinating story of the War of the Roses. It is a wonderful blend of fact and fiction. Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres, and I was royally entertained by this well-researched book. I also enjoyed the author's notes, following the conclusion of the book. My only criticism of the book is that on occasion, the dialogue shifts a bit too much into the vernacular of today, creating a bit of dissonance in the narrative,which is the only reason I rated it four stars, rather than five. Still, those who love reading historical fiction will most certainly enjoy this book.

I enjoyed this novel for it's refreshing perspective on the Buckingham rebellion and the marriage between Henry Stafford and Katherine Woodville. It is a shame that one historical record can become the defining word upon such a thing as a marriage and the author quotes in her author's note the words of Dominic Mancini that are taken as the basis for the nature of Henry and Kate's marriage: "for, when he (Henry) was younger, he had been forced to marry the queen's sister, whom he scorned to wed on account of her humble origin". Therefore, it was very interesting to me to read a much more balanced version of their marriage and I felt as though Ms. Higginbotham gave sound reasoning for her decision to portray it as such. Sometimes we have to realize that the facts are there in front of us, if we would just get past the murky waters of historical bias.Overall, I really liked both characters and enjoyed reading of how their relationship changed as they grew up together. A child marriage may seem strange to a modern day reader, but through this novel I could clearly see how Henry and Kate became a strong couple due to their shared experiences in childhood as well as adulthood. It was very well-written.Even though it does not affect the quality of the novel itself I will note that the author is not a follower of Richardian ideas, which seem to be rather prevalent in historical fiction these days. That is not to say that she portrays Richard as a monster in keeping with Shakespeare, but rather he is not portrayed as either devil nor saint. He was a man as any other, with ambitions and dreams and a measure of both good and bad. However, if you do not respond well to anything other than saint then this novel is not for you. (Again, not a reflection on the novel itself, only a caution to those with strong feelings on the matter).In my opinion though, Ms. Higginbotham has researched the facts and portrayed the events in a way that resonates with her, as every Cousins War author does. Truthfully, this varied number of perspectives is one of the reasons why this is my favorite era of British history. I could read about it forever, and it would never get old!

From the sidelines, Katherine Woodville, sister of the queen, gives us an interesting perspective of events surrounding the end of the Yorkist dynasty. Told in first person both from her point of view and that of her husband, Henry the Duke of Buckingham, we get a tale partly informed, mostly biased, and sad in a pathetic sort of way. Katherine most certainly does not like the Duke of Gloucester, and she has a difficult time staying neutral in face of her husband's obvious hero-worship. When Edward IV dies and Richard immediately begins his campaign to gain the crown, the fate of her father and brother seals her hatred of the unpleasant new King.This novel is very black-and-white. We learn of Richard's guilt from his own lips in a neutral, unemotional way. There is no ambiguity, which I think would have made events more interesting. But Henry's reaction on hearing the fate of the princes in the tower is enough to explain his sudden about-face and his willingness to join the first rebellion. It is a tidy explanation and fits the most damning interpretation of Richard's actions. With his wife's encouragement, Henry commits himself to a doomed enterprise without possibly thinking of the consequences. Katherine, of course, must struggle on, deprived of her husband, her sons and her estates.The book moves along effortlessly and everything fits together. Perhaps limited by the first person perspective, many events were simply glossed over (like the executions of her relatives and details surrounding the princes in the tower). Nevertheless I found it a good read, even though there were no surprises.

But this book is among my very favorites by any legal historian in the past several years. It is delightfully written, well researched, and has ongoing relevance for issues such as climate change. For anyone interested in combined issues of property, sovereignty,regulation, and the commons, this book belongs in your collection.

About the Author

Karuho Shiina was born and raised in Hokkaido, Japan. Though Kimi ni Todoke is only her second series following many one-shot stories, it has already racked up accolades from various "Best Manga of the Year" lists. Winner of the 2008 Kodansha Manga Award for the shojo category, Kimi ni Todoke also placed fifth in the first-ever Manga Taisho (Cartoon Grand Prize) contest in 2008. This is an approach that I really like in most writing.Kurumi admits to Kazehaya that she has feelings for him, but Kazehaya admits that he already cares about a different girl (he doesn't name Sawako, but Kurumi isn't stupid) . Chizu (she is NOT shy, clueless, but NOT shy) is in a tizzy shopping for a birthday present for Ryu (Sanada). Although Chizu and Yani meet Sawako's parents for the first time (a sleep over at Sawako's house), Sawako (and Kazehaya) is more of a supporting character in this book. Sawako is initially confused by who Chizu has feelings for and Chizu is totally oblivious to the person who has feelings for her.I enjoyed seeing more of the other characters - Yano, Chizu, Ryu/Sanada, Mr. Arai (a teacher), Sawako's parents, etc. but this does mean that the main story line didn't seem to progress very much.This series moves slowly, but Sawako always leaves me with a warm feeling.I give book 5 of kimi ni todoke a 4.In order to come up with an overall review/rating for the series and this specific book within the series, I used the following criteria:Character development: Excellent (5). This series is about teenagers and their relationships; primarily focused on the high school environment and activities. The characters are very real and human. I would be surprised if anyone reading this could not find someone that they can relate to. The characters grow and we learn more about them in a consistent manner. In the 20+ books that I have read of this series, I have not noted any actions that seemed out of character based on the character development and story line. Characters have changed, but they have changed in ways that are logical and consistent with what the reader knows of them.Art: Is slightly better than average (3.5) I enjoy this series a great deal, but the art could be improved especially the faces.Relationship development: is Excellent (5) Although this series does move slowly, this means that the relationships develop as they would in real life. The shy girl doesn't get the guy by the end of the first book, friendships don't develop (or end) abruptly and for no reason, etc.Overall Story: Very Good (4). This is not my 'typical' genre of manga, but I did enjoy reading the books. My big complaint is that it seems to move so so slowly. It is about relationships - love, friendship, frenemies, and acquaintences. Sawaka agonizes for chapters over decisions. Since I do the same thing, I can't fault her, but at the same time, it does make the story move very slowly.Author's notes/extras: Not every author includes includes author's notes, however, Karuho Shiina has. I enjoy learning more about the person behind a book so I appreciate the extra effort that the author takes to tell us about herself.Will I re-read? Excellent (5). Yes, I will re-read this series. As a matter of fact, I DID. I read most of the books (the first time) on-line, but felt guilty that the author and publishing company were not benefiting. I then purchased the books and have found that the print version from the publisher is the better way (for me) to enjoy these books.Will I recommend? Very Good (4.5). Because of her appearance, she has the nickname "Sadako" - the name of a fictional character behind a 'cursed video'. Sawako is shy (and naive and trusting and....), but determined to make friends. She meets another first year student named Shota Kazehaya who is in her class. Kazehaya is naturally friendly and is also very popular. Based on Kazehaya's positive interactions with Sawako, other students begin to talk to her as well. Sawako has been ignored/ostracized for so long that she feels unworthy of what many would consider common politeness. Sawako credits Kazehaya with being responsible for her new friends and the improvement in the way other students view her. Sawako clearly has a case of hero worship for Kazehaya, but finds that her feelings for him are different than her feelings for other (male) classmates who are polite to her.Kazehaya shows signs of special feelings for Sawako as well. He is happy for that she has female friends (her first) who invite her to do things with them, but.... he wonders how long he will have to wait for her attention. I found Kazehaya especially well written since he had to deal with his own interest in Sawako, but doesn't want to interfere with her budding friendships.The book ends with Sawako being accused of spreading rumors about her new friends.
