I love Gena Showalter and she didn't disappoint in this book. I was a bit apprehensive reading such a 'normal' work by her. I fell in love with her through the Lords of the Underworld series and moved on to Atlantis and then the bad ass Alien Huntress series....so a genie type man magically appearing out of a box to seduce and fall in love with a 'normal' girl just didn't seem exciting enough for a Gena Showalter book. But what this book lacks in action it makes up for in humor. I don't know how many times I had to keep myself from laughing out loud while reading. I was reading this book in the middle of the night with a sleeping husband and baby that can wake up at a drop of feather. So while I knew that I needed to get my butt to sleep because tomorrow my little one year old wouldn't have any mercy on me....I also couldn't put this book down. You know that Tristan and Julia will eventually get together. You know that she will free Tristan from the curse that has haunted his existence for hundreds of years. But it's the getting there that makes this book so special. It's a blast reading how Julie tries to deny her attraction for Tristan...and how he circumvents her every effort.This one is a gem and I totally recommend reading it. Its a fast paced, fun read!
Julia is an antique shop owner, she loves owning pieces of history. On a trip to the flea market she sees a tiny jewelry box, well worn, something about it calls to her. Upon cleaning the box she discovers a small button on the underside. The button produces a giant warrior made pleasure slave by a jealous twisted High Priestess of the Druinn. Tristan despises his fate, he has been made to horrendous things, slave to many women over a 1000 years. Imagine his surprise when 5'3 Julia tries to defend herself from 6'+ Tristan. Julia refuses the unimaginable pleasure he keeps offering her. This has never happened to him. In order to break the spell that binds him he must find his one true love. Julia just wants friendship, maybe training from him to talk to the opposite sex. She has horrible self confidence due to a traumatic event on her first date. Their relationship evolves into something neither imagined.I liked this novel! I haven't read a Gena Showalter novel I haven't liked. I absolutely adored The Stone Prince, the characters from that novel are mentioned in this one. It isn't dark like the Lords, but is great in its own right. The story is amusing and innocent. Both characters finding something they never thought could happen. It was fast paced, I read it in one sitting, unable to put it down. It is a sweet novel, innocence turning into want and need. I highly recommend this novel and the stone prince if you like a paranormal romance tasty treat!
The chemistry between Julia and Tristan is off the charts sweet and hot. The build up between them leaves you frustrated and begging for more and when they finally, FINALLY do the deed, you're left fanning yourself and reaching for a cold glass of water!
Ladies I don't we write summaries of books so I'm just going to say if you are on you days and you feel like all men need to drop dead then this book is for you. As ladies we all know how our days can screw with our emotions and we become needy and lonely (don't deny it) but chocolate just isn't enough sometimes ....with that said this book is perfect for those emotional days where you feel lonely and hate the world for no reason. The Pleasure Slave has just enough steamy goodness with an outstanding build up between the main characters it just makes your heart melt into a puddle. With the combination of this book and your favourite chocolate you'll be able to make it through those tough days!!!
Those who know and love Gena Showalter's pretty formulaic romances, will adore this book. Those who don't, probably won'tShowalter's formula goes like this:Lonely awkward and "fat" (size 8 at most) virgin meets otherworldly hottie warrior, she coyly resists him, and he teaches her to believe in herself and then whisks her away to wherever he came from. Add one or two tame sex scenes and that's pretty much it.I happen to enjoy Ms. Showalter's books, they're comfy and predictable, like an old sweater. The plots barely vary, but if you're a fan you won't mind. Much. If not, you'll loathe this and every other Showalter title.Simple, right?
Loved the story line and how she subtled tied this book to the stone prince and also to the Atlantis series. I also enjoyed that the book had a strong female lead and not just the typical damsel in distress waiting for some big, strong man to come rescue her. Even better, the strong female lead didn't let her strength keep her from truly falling in love or admitting she actually needed her lover. True love isn't ashamed to admit the need for their partner.
i like how this book is linked to the Stone prince book Showalter wrote. it has the alternate reality with the mortal realm as well. And how we need to open our eyes more and notice and ask men what they truly are saying and say what is on our mind. All the books i read i learn a life lesson somewhere in the midst of the story to always look back on.
I am new to Gena Showalters style of writing. I had no idea what to expect when I order this book. I was not disappointed. I love it when a book draws you in.... Two books in this series. It would be nice if there were more..... Maybe????
