This is an amazing book. I've read Hypnobirthing, Orgasmic Birth, the Bradley Method, Ina May's Guide to Childbirth and a million blogs. I get sucked in :)This book was by far my favorite.Why? More than any of the others, it recognizes that there isn't ONE right/perfect way. So many natural birth advocates are so exclusive and cliquey and mom-judgers : like if you don't birth at home or in a birth center with 0 interventions, you're a weaker mother and already failing your baby. Opinions like this make me mad because they're just not true.Suzy's book is so empowering because she says that NO body ever fails at birth. We are all incredible. It's about being informed and prepared and practicing openness to whatever experience arises for us. Letting go of fear. A good lesson for LIFE too.

When pregnant with my first I looked into hypnobirthing and tried Hypnobabies. When I was pregnant with my second I found I wanted to check out other hypnobirthing resources. I loved this book because it was an easy, quick read. The book really helped me have a pleasant unmedicated birth.

Loved this! Great book. Well read too, the author has such a calming voice. Very reassuring and empowering. I listened to it maybe 4 times before I had my baby. I recommended to several friends and ultimately enjoyed the labor process. I was open minded to whatever journey baby and body lead me on. That is the message of the book. To create a mindset where you are not afraid. You got this, you can do it, no matter where your birth story goes. However, things went really well and I was able to go all natural. This book teaches you to listen to your body, your body was made to do this. It’s not too granola, it’s science based- relaxing your mind relaxes your body. It teaches you methods and reassures you repeatedly. You got this! You have to be relaxed so the baby can descend. Overall an amazing book that helped me overcome my fears of labor. My husband and I now have a great memory, which was the goal. I didn’t want a memory of pain or complications. Cant say enough about this book. Thank you Suzy!!

I grabbed this book at 39 weeks pregnant with my 4th baby. I wish I had this earlier! I had read the Hypnobirthing book with my last baby so I was already familiar with the points in this book. But it was a great refresher. It would make a great starting book for someone wanting to get started with hypnobirthing. Overall great book and I have been recommending it to my pregnant friends.

I bought this book a few weeks before I was due, and it really helped me learn the benefits and importance of staying calm and optimistic about childbirth and through the birthing process. The breathing techniques and other tips are great! While I wouldn’t say I’m a hypnobirthing pro after labor, I would def. say this book is well worth it for anyone looking to have the best birthing experience possible. I’m REALLY glad I read it and like being a part of the online FB community.

Disappointed. The only thing of value in this entire book was a breathing technique of slow controlled breathing in and out and breathing the baby down. Nothing else worth noting.

This really helped me to have the right perspective heading into giving birth to my first child. I would recommend this as a must read to anyone no matter what type of delivery they are planning.

First, this is a glossary of terms + ads for pay SEO services. If I wanted to pay someone for services I wouldn't buy a book to tell me who to pick. Very bad.Second, the book is loaded with misprinted pages, especially the photos. See attached pics.Wow. What a waste of money. :(

This is an exceptional resource that I should have read much earlier in my web career. I own and operate two businesses that are predominantly driven through web traffic, and have relied exclusively on outsourced SEO. This book provides ANYONE who has a website and relies on it for their livelihood to gain enough knowledge to effectively manage their vendors, if not enough to handle the basics in-house. The book was written about 5 years ago - after the last "big wave" of changes in how Google ranks and the Bing/Yahoo combo for search. Based on what I know, the information and approach is still solid. While the vendors and some of the tactics have changed - and the pace of change on the web is extreme - the book hits the spot.

Easy to understand and very thorough.I expect the next edition out relatively soon, but this book was too good to not have a copy of.

The four authors did a great job in the scope of the subject matter in this book. The publisher did a great job with The Table of Contents, Glossary and Index as all are comprehensive.This book should have a 5-star rating. However, the publisher provides page after page of screen captures that are not legible! I paid $45.36, including sales tax, for this book and should return it, based upon the very poor reproduction of the many screen captures. However, I'll retain it, based upon the excellence of material provided by the four authors.The staff at O'Reilly Media produced a quality book with good typography, cover design, paper stocks and perfect binding. This leads me to be completely baffled by their complete disregard of the terrible quality of the screen captures throughout the book.This book is worth purchasing. But be forewarned, as you may be as frustrated as I am, about the terrible reproduction of every screen capture throughout the book.

This is one monster of a book on SEO. Very technically written, not for the ultra-novice, "just starting out online" reader in my opinion.But, after reading this, I got the feeling that I received a firm and solid education on the subject in a WIDE variety of areas. Not to mention, I am a fan of books that can be technically written without sounding "ultra-clinical".I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has read a bunch of blogs or other info on SEO (some of which is misinformation), and really wants the foundational education to keep on their bookshelf as a reference.

Keep this book onyour shelf for a handy reference. It's a great text book for those who want to know SEO. Of course, it constantly changes, but this offers the basics and you'll be glad you have it. As men's fashion writers go, Bruce Boyer is one of the better ones. The subtitle of "True Style", "The History and Principles of Classic Menswear", overstates its comprehensiveness by a mile. "True Style" is a compilation of disconnected articles treating a diverse group of clothing items and ideas. The chapters served well as magazine articles focused on narrow topics, but they do not cohere as a book. You might be occasionally entertained or enlightened, but you will not come away with a deep, or even useful, knowledge of the history and principles of classic menswear.

Excellent book written with a sense of class and style that is sadly disappearing.This book should be in every man's library in the country if not the world, and it would help make the world a better place by giving men the sense of pride and confidence that we all should have.

This was a somewhat interesting, although at times tedious, read. I knew I was in trouble when it started by talking about ascots. Why start with such an obscure clothing topic? All in all, it lacked the flow of a book, and felt more like individual articles in no particular sequence. The topics were mildly entertaining, but nothing exceptional or particularly useable.

G. Bruce Boyer is an acknowledged expert in classic menswear. While he favors the Ivy style, this book looks at all styles in the classic clothing field. Boyer has collected pieces he wrote for magazines, and on-line blogs, into what is the third book in his excellent series about clothing (Elegance and Eminently Suitable are the first two books). It is NOT a "how-to" manual that teaches you how to tie a bow tie or helps you chose the best colors for you to wear. It is a mix of a history and celebration of great clothing and accessories. "True Style" educates the reader on why we wear what we wear. The book is a must-have for your sartorial library.

I love Boyer's writing style so even though I'm not very interested in fashion, I love essays and he writes a good one. A lot of good ones.

Timothy Keller was born and raised in Pennsylvania and educated at Bucknell University, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and Westminster Theological Seminary. A totally different take on the Prodigal Son teaching in the Scriptures than I've seen previous to this. It was convicting and reassuring, both. Caused self-examination in me. Timothy Keller, from all indications, seems to be a biblically oriented teacher. Refreshing. I think his position on Grace is on point for the most part. I am not aware of any deviation from Scripture in this book.

A lot of the books I read on here are for my personal study, and my personal interests, hence the chess books, but this book was for a sermon series that I have developed on the Prodigal Son parable. I have planned a years worth of sermons, so before I start a new series of lessons, I begin to read about the topic. This was why I selected to book. I wanted to blend something that was popular level with some scholarly reading on this parable. This book was insightful, and practical, and easy to read. I have never read any of Keller's material before, and left this book impressed. He is a good author, and does his homework in the text. The book tells the story of the Prodigal Son, though he notes that this is perhaps not the best title for the parable. The book looks at the major characters of the parable, which was helpful because that was the way I developed the series of lessons. He does a good job of highlighting the point of the parable within the attitude of the older brother, and using some of Willimon's material, of preaching to the baptized, this created a lot of connection to the text. A lot of the people in church will agree with the sinner coming home, but demonstrating the attitude of the older brother is the common sin in numerous church pews. The book does a good job of bridging the ancient social context with the modern world. This book helped with the sermon series and it would be a good book just to read on its own. It is short, interesting, and good.

I had to read this book for a masters class and can I tell you how wonderfully enlightened is this author! Besides having an easy writing style the critical message is so truthful there's no need to force feed the reader. The Bible' truth can be received by children and go over the heads of so-called intellectuals because truth doesn't emanate from man's wisdom. This book highlights God's wisdom and announces how very wrong some of us are with regard to how we view who is our brother and who is our neighbor. Those young in the faith will get an insiders perspective of a Christian who walks the talk. Those long in the faith should be jolted from sleepwalking. Well done Mr. Keller!

"This short book is meant to lay out the essentials of the Christian message, the gospel." So begins Timothy Keller's new book The Prodigal God: Recovering the Heart of the Christian Faith. Keller targets both seekers who are unfamiliar with the gospel and longtime church members who may not feel the need for a primer on the gospel.Keller's book, as the provocative title suggests, is built on one of Jesus' most famous stories: the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15). Keller consents that "on the surface of it, the narrative is not all that gripping." But, he contends that "if the teaching of Jesus is likened to a lake, this famous Parable of the Prodigal Son would be one of the clearest spots where we can see all the way to the bottom." Keller has taught from this passage many times over the years, and says, "I have seen more people encouraged, enlightened, and helped by this passage, when I explained the true meaning of it, than by any other text."The book is laid out in seven brief chapters which aim to uncover the extravagant (prodigal) grace of God, as revealed in this parable. Keller shows how the parable describes two kinds of "lost" people, not just one. Most people can identify the lostness of the "prodigal son," the younger brother in Jesus' story, who takes his inheritance early and squanders it on riotous living. But Keller shows that the "elder brother" in the parable is no less lost. Together, the two brothers are illustrations of two kinds of people in the world. "Jesus uses the younger and elder brothers to portray the two basic ways people try to find happiness and fulfillment: the way of moral conformity and the way of self-discovery." Both brothers are in the wrong, and when we see this, we discover a radical redefinition of what is wrong with us. "Nearly everyone defines sin as breaking a list of rules. Jesus, though, shows us that a man who has violated nothing on the list of moral misbehaviors may be every bit as spiritually lost as the most profligate, immoral person. Why? Because sin is not just breaking the rules, it is putting yourself in the place of God as Savior, Lord and Judge just as each son sought to displace the authority of the father in his own life." As these quotes hint, Keller's exposition of the two sons lays the groundwork for a penetrating analysis and critique of both moral relativists on the liberal left and religious moralists on the conservative right, showing that the latter are just as lost as the former. What both need is Jesus, whom Keller presents as "the true elder brother," the one who comes to our rescue at his own expense. Through his grace, we are given hope and invited to the great feast of the Father.As with Keller's preaching, this book is intelligent and winsome, combining thoughtful reflection on both text and culture with searching heart application. Keller's book is effectively illustrated with a liberal use of stories and quotations from literature, movies, and the arts. Most imporantly, the book orients the reader's heart to the hope of the gospel of God's grace revealed in Christ.One more note: for readers who may have felt intimidated by Keller's recent book The Reason for God, don't shrink away from The Prodigal God. It is probably only 1/3 of the length and much easier to read. I highly recommend it to unbelievers, seekers and established Christians.
