I bought this book to read to my second graders. The characters are ho hum and they go a long way around before getting to the point of what "equal" means. I do like the seesaw being used as a visual as I use rocker balances to do that as well. If you can make it to page 29, there is a good explanation of "effort" playing a part in the "equalness" of the tug of war game.
I saw a couple reviews saying this was wordy. My kids love stories and don't mind if they are long. I personally didn't think it was too long or wordy, but I could see how some might. We loved this story. It was adorable and got a few giggles along the way. Cute addition to a lesson on balance.
I love this book! I do not think it is to wordy at all for my 1/2 graders!! It will hit on being equal and estimation. I think the kids will enjoy hearing the book and better grasp the concept without even realizing it.
My class and I love this book. It not only teaches about equal in regards to numerals and equations but also equal as in weight and balance scales. Perfect to enhance understanding and curriculum.
Covers the meanings of equal in a cute little story with charming illustrations. Good book for early STEM collections.
