I received a copy via netgalley for review. This in no way shapes or forms my opinions of the book.I’ll start off by saying me and my family own and have read the others countless times. The five year old absolutely loves chipper and squizzo’s Adventures together and the cool facts he learns from the story. The artwork I sent always stunning and very readable. The farm story was quite cute, typical Squizzo and Chipper fashion a mission or idea on hand they take the reader on the adventure with them where they can learn something new or freshen a thought up on a new take on a thought. We always love the banter between the two, the sound effects are quite fun to immate, and the comic and artwork combined utterly cute. He always loves the jokes, and I always love that the educational background helps him learn more about stuff so it’s a win win. Thanks for taking the time to make reading fun for all ages and can’t wait for more!

My Review: I received this book via Netgalley, the following is my honest review. I have been wanting to give on of the Little Tails issues a try after they attracted my attention a year or so ago, so when this one came available on Netgalley I jumped at the opportunity. I love that there are more and more graphic novels and comics being made available to younger reading audiences, it is a great way to bridge the gap from illustrated picture books to novels and chapter books. Graphic Novels are also a great way to help young readers who may not be as interested in the activity to focus on a book. With that said, I don't think I have ever seen one done quite the way that Little Tails is done. It combines the classic comic cartoon strip with beautiful and artistic illustration. On each page is a short comic featuring the characters Chipper and Squizzo in simple cartoon pencil style and then the scene or animal on the farm they are discussing fills the remainder of the page in a beautiful artistic and realistic style. It really took me a bit to wrap my head around it but the funny adventure that the pair were on drew me in, along with the use of facts throughout the story. I don't know how well young readers will be able to make the connection between the comic and the images but it is certainly a unique book to share. My Rating: This was an unusually formatted book, even for a graphic novel. I am not sure how that will translate for everyone but I found it unique and I love that it is written for children but enjoyable for all. I give it a rating of Three Paws.

A squirrel and dog are hungry so they venture out on the farm to look for milk. They meet many of the inhabitants of the farm on their tricky quest. This is advertised as an easy reader, and it is told in fairly simple language though there are lots of contractions and the names of some animals can be harder…think level 1 or 2 depending on the series, but definitely not pre-reader. Kids get introduced to a wide variety of animals that can make their home on a farm. The story is told with two layers of illustrations. The interactions between the squirrel and dog take place in black and white panels at the top like a traditional comic, while the bottom half of the page shows a related scene from nearby on the farm in full, vibrant color and more life-like illustrations. (Actually the color illustrations reminded me a lot of classic vintage Little Golden Book illustrations but with brighter colors.) It’s a unique combo of illustration styles but I liked it. It will help beginning readers understand how to read comics and graphic novels, and most importantly, I think kids will really enjoy it. It looks like other books in this series introduces animals in other locals, like the ocean.I received an ARC of this title from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Chipper the dog and Squizzo the squirrel set out on an adventure to the farm next door to get some milk. They meet each animal on the farm and try to figure out which one will give them milk. The illustrations are a mix of comic strip-style panels with Chipper and Squizzo, with an absolutely gorgeous illustration of the particular farm animal on the rest of the page. I read this with my 2-year-old and 5-year-old, and both loved it. I had each pick a favorite page, and my daughter chose the sleeping cat and my son chose the goats in the tree.Reading the book was a lot of fun and very educational. We paused on each page to talk about the noises the animals made, what they ate, and why they live on a farm, as well as whether Chipper and Squizzo could get milk from them. There’s lots of little fun details on each page that my 5-year-old enjoyed pointing out (“Mommy, the MOUSE is running so FAST!”).At the end of the book, there’s a mini glossary of some of the farm animals with fun facts.Overall, this was a sweet, educational book that both my kids and I enjoyed reading. They’ve already requested the hardcover version of this one, as well as the rest of the series!

I like this series of Little Tails. It is a great way to introduce children to the animals found on a farm, well come farms. This sort of idyllic farm only exists in picture books, these days. Most farms are large industrial complexes, as those smaller ones would not have a plow horse and a tractor. Two sheep? Two cows? Two donkeys? It is an odd farm. But, be that as it may, this is a great way to show all the possible animals that would make up a farm, from bees, to pigs to cows to peacocks. And our friends, the Puppy and Squirrel, ask questions, and explore along the way.And in the end, we get some factoids about the animals that the two have visited. The illustrations are gorgeous. Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.
