Actually, I like it so much as I'm not that creative for legos when I play with the kids. It gives the detail for every step. However, it is too expensive for one volume of five "build it" books. Especially, there is not too much various animals in this book. I will still keep it but don't plan to buy more.

We do like this book. It was kind of neat to find a book with more things to build with the set my son got for Christmas. The only problem is is there are mistakes. We’ve only built the green plane so far and it has two mistakes. It asks for a piece that doesn’t come with the set (we actually spent a long time looking for it before I checked the list of pieces in the box itself and found it isn’t in there) and it asks for a certain number of blocks and then in the instructions asks for an additional one. Also like a previous review stated the colors are off so it’s hard to tell what it’s asking for. My four year old doesn’t seem to mind though.

This book if full of fun little challenges for kids to build. Recommended for the Lego fan in your life.

I was a little hesitant about purchasing after reading other reviews. We often entertain dinner parties of 4 to 6 guests and thought a menu cookbook would be great. I have always trusted America's Test Kitchen and asked for this book for Christmas. I love it. The front section has a list of equipment that they recommend for the home chef. I have several of the recommended products by America's Test Kitchen and have always found their reviews very accurate. As for content; the book does give detail on how to successfully prepare the menu. It states what items to prepare the day before as well as how to hold items at temp if needed. I am going to enjoy cooking out of this book!

This is a very nicely done, inch thick, hardcover book. More than just a menu book it contains cookware recommendations, as you'd expect from ATK, and an extremely useful list of "Emergency Substitutions." For example, you can substitute cake flour with a combination of AP flour and cornstarch, or buttermilk with milk and lemon juice or white vinegar. It also contains "11th Hour Recipes" separate from the menus in case something goes wrong at the last minute (dropped cake, etc.). There are a total of 51 menus with a total of 250 recipes. Each menu is portioned to serve 8, although the holiday menus serve 12. The menus are organized by season: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, and Celebrations and Holidays. Each menu contains 4 to 5 courses, and contains a "game plan" for what to cook ahead and what to do the day of, and info for timing. No other ATK books I know of do that, nor do they arrange courses for you to keep things interesting for the guests. I can only see someone complaining about this is they prefer to plan all this themselves. If so, why buy the book anyway? I've included a full list of the menus below. It is sized like a coffee table book as the other reviewer noted. However, I don't understand why he gave this book three stars because he likes to talk to guests. It's obvious this book is about cooking for dinner parties. That's its goal, and that's what it accomplishes. If you want to be free to mingle or be center of attention then buy a book on hiring a caterer. If you enjoy cooking because it's how you show your love and gratitude for family/friends, then this book is for you. Besides, in my family people are always in the kitchen!==Update==I've since made several of these menus for large family gatherings. The relatives have been impressed! I've made the Thanksgiving, Holiday Ham, French Country Stew, and Rustic Italian dinners. Lots of raves. Overall, I've found that each menu has TOO MANY recipes. Five huge courses? Who is THAT hungry? Instead I pick and choose the ones that sound the best.For example, on Christmas my family ate the menu on page 301: Ham/Carrots/Fennel/Red Potatoes, Buttermilk Biscuits, and Apricot-Almond Bundt Cake. Three recipes from that menu I did not do. I assembled the biscuits and baked the cake the day before. There were 3 other recipes, but I made a Brussels Sprouts with Pecans recipe from myrecipes.com instead. Brussels Sprouts provided a nice green color to the table and are in season. While the recipes stick fairly closely to the season, they are not strict. For Christmas there's a Baby Greens with Strawberries recipe. Strawberries in December? I know they're technically available, but still. For the French Country Stew I included baguettes from a local baker with Amish butter. That's not in the menu, but an easy and obvious addition that enhanced the meal by sopping up sauce.These menus are not written in stone. They provide much inspiration, and are fantastic starting points. Are these five coursers too difficult? If you try to pull ALL of them off as written your dinner will be a bit over-the-top. Not impossible, but unnecessary in my opinion. Unlike other reviewers I am not put off by having too many choices. Instead, I see unused recipes as an opportunity to create another unique spin of that menu at some future date.Overall, this book has taught me a lot about cooking for groups of 8 to 12, and boosted my cooking confidence. I began teaching myself how to cook a few years ago. The key is to make as much ahead of time as possible. Each menu has notes titled "The Game Plan," and these are crucial for your success. If you're short on time look for the "Even Easier" notes, which provide similar but fast recipes.

Had several couples over for dinner and served one of the menues from this book. Everything was delicious! Even the salsa verde, which I'm not usually a fan of, was very tasty. I'll definitely be using this book again. Recommended.

I have yet to make a recipe from any of the America's Test Kitchen books I have purchased and not been very pleased with the results. I particularly like this book as I entertain regularly and it's always nice to have most of my meal made before my guests arrive. I have made several recipes from this book already and, as usual, have not been disappointed.

I love this book, my son went to the Culinary Institute of America and he approves the menu and recipes. A must have for people who love to cook and or love to entertain with delicious food!

David Fromkin with his magnificent so-aptly titled THE PEACE TO END ALL PEACE chronicled the end of World War I. When I bought it years ago in Israel before a long flight home during which I couldn't put it down the title was THE PARIS PEACE CONFERENCE, with the new title on subsequent reprints then a sub-theme.With this latest book Derek Leebaert has tremendously helped us understand what really happened at the end of World War II, how the U.S. got into the role of policing the world as "the exceptional country", why Eisenhower warned us of the "military-industrial complex", and why we have been in a perpetual state of war worldwide ever-since with our basic freedoms as well as the governmental checks and balances we Americans are raised to believe in consistently whittled away.In these ways this is another magnificent book about the many conferences and secret meetings this time after WWII that resulted in another round of "Peace To End All Peace". And now as a result we may be entering the final apocalyptic phases, which is precisely why those now in charge of our destiny should be reading and pondering this book with some urgency.I'm not sure what literary prize to be nominating this book for, but no doubt others can and should pick up on that.

I read two thirds of this book before glancing at the author's biography on the inner dust jacket. I did so out of curiosity because I could not discern any British or American bias. Before looking I figured he was probably British because he knew so much about the inner workings of their government, etc. Turns out that the author was American. I applaud him for writing a lengthy and detailed objective account of wartime allies that turned into peacetime competitors. His point that neither nation anticipated what would happen after the last shots were fired in Europe in early May 1945 is one that is not well understood by many historians or lay readers. It seems to most folks that the British instantly found themselves in total decline while the Americans were thrust into the role of superpower in the blink of an eye simply because they had the bomb and no one else did. But isolationist and imperial sentiment ran deep within the respective political communities, which resulted in that "instantaneous" transformation taking place slowly and painfully over the course of a decade, culminating in the US placing pressure on Britain and France during the Suez crisis in 1956 - an event that perhaps represented the nadir of relations between the US and UK in the twentieth century. Well written and impeccably researched. Highly recommended.

Gene Dattel grew up in the cotton country of the Mississippi Delta and studied history at Yale and law at Vanderbilt. He then embarked on a twenty-year career in financial capital markets as a managing director at Salomon Brothers and at Morgan Stanley. A consultant to major financial institutions and to the Pentagon, he established a reputation as a foremost authority on Asian economies. His The Sun That Never Rose remains the definitive work on Japanese financial institutions in the 1980s. This study offers striking data I've never seen before for the hypothesis that Northerners, including many abolitionists, were as hostile or more hostile to blacks than were most Southern whites. Dattel's detailed analysis of Northern legal restrictions on black residency and voting was astonishing evidence for the proposition that what Northerners mainly wanted from abolition was either (a) to evict blacks completely from the U.S., which couldn't be done until they were "free" or (b) to guarantee that they remained forever in the South, as quasi-slaves. This helps to explain why, after the Civil War, and the relegation of blacks to second-class citizenship, Northerners seemed to lose interest almost completely in black rights. A major piece of historical revisionism.

Author Gene Dattel takes the tragedy of slavery and economics of cotton production and weaves an engrossing story of enormous importance even today. He examines the origins of the humble cotton plant and its horrific intertwining with slavery; its astounding importance in international trade and the true economic origins of the Civil War. He places blame fairly and all round, no section of country was blameless here, in fact the North made enormous profits on the production of cotton and the transportation and sale of slaves.The writer's style is interesting and very comprehensible, I am awed by his ability to give a tragic human face to such dry economic data. You will never look at a cotton item the same way again I promise you.

Being a proud fifth-generation Southerner, I thought that I fully understood why the Civil War was fought. Most of my understanding was based upon the influence of society and culture within which I grew up. Although none of my family were flag flying Confederates, there was very much pride in being a Southerner and having ancestors who fought for the Confederacy.After reading this book, I honestly believe that I better understand why the Southerners did what they did. Within my lifetime I have been told over and over that the war was fought over the issue of slavery. As this book shows, slavery was at the root of the war. The primary issue of the war, however, was pure economics.I had always accepted blame for the war as a Southerner. I felt that the Northern influence of slavery was insignificant or nonexistent. I was wrong. Just as the masses of Southerners were not the cause of the war, nor were the masses of the Northerners the cause of the war. Both North and South, it seems from this book, a relatively small number from the "United States" had the production of cotton paramount in their minds and their lives. It was all about MONEY. No cotton, no money. No money, no cotton. No slaves, no cotton. No slaves, no money. I really believe that it is that simple and this book led me to that conclusion.I highly recommend this book to any citizen of the United States of America. I believe that having read this book, we can better understand our history. Maybe we can even prevent repeating bad history.My thanks to the author in this extremely fine work. Although this was not an "easy" book to read, it should be read from cover to cover.

The gap between what we are told about slavery in school and what really happened, why it happened, and how it affects us today is vast and wide. This book does a great job of filling in some of the gap. We need more books like this so the American people can heal from this awful period in our history. Until we know the truth, we are stuck in the past. I am the president of an hereditary society call Sons and Daughters of the United States Middle Passage ([...]) and we encourage accurate and complete information about the institution of slavery in the US and I am happy to recommend this book.

My favorite growing up and now my toddler loves it

I purchased this book (as well as all of the other Dr. Seuss books) as soon as they became available for the Kindle. It helped that there was a great promotional price at the time but the real motivator was to have them for my, at that time, infant grandson to read.Fast forward a couple of years and I realized that while the Kindle version is great to have (especially when on-the-go), nothing really replaces having the actual book in hand for a toddler. My grandson is now almost three years old and can handle the delicate process of turning thin, paper pages. He loves to sit and “read” books to himself or to his baby sister. Because of this new realization, I have decided to pick up the books in this series in hardback format.“Green Eggs and Ham” is one of the wonderful books I remember from my own childhood and I love the book's rhymes and illustrations. It was one of the Dr. Seuss books that I purchased and read to my children when they were young. We still have those old books but I gave them to my daughters when they moved away from home so they could keep an important piece of their childhood with them. I now get to have the opportunity to buy them again and enjoy reading them to a new generation.

I was hesitant to buy this book (that I love) because of so many negative reviews regarding paper quality. I actually removed it from my cart and then went to a book store to see the quality for myself. Yes, it is true that you can see some of the impressions of the previous page through the current page. However, I did not find it distracting in any way. I did not think it was a sign of poor paper quality. I thought the quality of the book felt as good as the one I had as a child. Because the images contain a lot of black lines and dark green ham :), I think it is inevitable that some of these lines will show through. Please, still consider buying this book. Please, still consider buying any/all Dr. Seuss books. I am so glad I bought this despite the reviews on paper quality. My husband read it before I wrapped it as a gift. He loved it and had no issues either!

Who DOESN'T love Green Eggs and Ham? Heck, even mister Grouch Guy liked Green Eggs and Ham after the story was over! You do not like them, so you say, try them, try them, and you may! He would eat them with a goat, he would eat them on a boat! In the rain, in the dark, on a train, in a car and in a tree, they are so good so good you see! He would eat them in a box, he would eat them with a fox. He would eat them in a house, with a mouse! He would eat them here or there, he would eat them ANYWHERE! He does he does so like green eggs and ham, he does he likes them, thank you thank you, Sam I Am!Beginning readers love this book for it's simple words fun story, and silly (but sneakily educational) simplistic didactic rhythm of the poem, which helps young readers to learn and remember (ask yourself why you still remember the words to this book after so many years!). Additionally, it enforces the lesson to TRY something, even if it looks weird, you may like them! You cannot say you don't like something until you have tried it!

This is the greatest story ever written. The doctor should have been hyped to Dr. Suess PhD, DDS, MD OvLuv because the man can spin a tail that brings tears to the most masculine of eyes. If you are into that whole men need to be tough thing. During my life, people have tried to argue for other books in the Seuss library, but those folks are wrong. Opinion does not even play a part.Stanford University did a study on the perfect combinations of words and then applied the equation to every book ever written. Green Eggs and Ham came out with the highest score. In fact, the second place score was 50% of the GEaH score. Don't bother looking it up because there are RFbF (Red Fish blue Fish) members that have infiltrated the librarian society and erased all of the evidence.It's a damn shame when people are still trying to deny the WORD. They have created songs to distract you telling you that the bird is in fact the word. Well it isn't the word, Kyle!

It is my favorite children's book. I bought it for my grandchildren and look forward to reading it to them. I want them to grow up enjoying the feel of a book; the sound and the motion of turning each page. It is a sensory delight that should be indelibly imprinted into their memories as was mine. I got this for my little brother, wanting him to read the books his older siblings used to read as children, and this edition is so cute! They're CUTOUTS that show you different parts of the pages and it's just the most brilliant thing. Not only does it keep his attention, it lets him help me when I'm reading; he loves pulling the pages apart to let me read the next passage. I really like this.

This book was to start my newest grandson on the Suess books for Christmas. All my grand children have all the Dr Seuss books and they are all gifted children. The supplier was very good about packaging and sending it out promptly. I recommend them to anyone. The Seuss books are Classics and despite what the politically ignorant Librarian said about them they are Classic books that stimulate the mind and imagination which i feel is why they have been around so many years and are still doing their magic on our bright young minds.

Make sure you have a big screen for this one, because the images aren't scalable. its basically the same picture you'd get if you opened the book flat, and took a picture from above. you can click on the words to make them bigger, but the picture on a phone isn't that great because its so small. On a tablet, though, its much better.

All of these photos are by Robert Cameron and all of them are gorgeous. These postcards have a matte finish so the photos don't look quite as spectacular as they could, but these are still lovely postcards. There are images that you'd expect, such as the Golden Gate Bridge from the air (which doesn't detract from a great image). And some were a surprise. I liked the one showing the Academy of Science's green roof. I've been to this museum in Golden Gate Park many times, and that includes the viewing platform you can access for the "living" roof. But to see it like this postcard from the air is a treat.Each postcard is 6 ¾" x 4 ¾". The cardstock is a little thicker than usual. I'm going to play it safe and use full first-pounce postage on these cards.The cards arrive gummed in a stack. I found that they can be removed out of of order, from the middle of the stack, if I'm careful. The exception is the last postcard, which is for some reason glued in. You have to tear off part of the message side to remove it. It's still useable, but odd.A nice set published by Cameron.Happy Reader

I was really excited about ordering this set of cards. Unfortunately when I received my purchase, I realized that I'm not going to keep it. Though the composition and technical quality of some of the photos leave a lot to be desired, the main problem is that the publisher really screwed up preparing the images for printing - the prints turned out too dark and grainy. The only good thing worth mentioning is the paper quality - it's really heavy weight carton, silky and matte, perfect for writing on and mailing without envelope.

It includes just about every area around, including San Jose, Oakland, Stanford, etc. It has photos of the city, Silicon Valley and most of the major Computer companies and chip makers such as Intel and AMD. Living in this area, I really like this book as I can see what my area looks like and there are a lot of photos, including every major bay bridge....

Whenever we have friends or relatives visit from out-of-state or overseas, we give them a copy of this excellent picture book. This works particularly well for our non-English speaking visitors who may peruse the pages - remembering all the exciting places we've visited during their stay!

robert cameron has been working on a series of books during the past decades. they are well worth collecting and give house guests a glimpse of back home.

A great companion book to Numbers 1-120. My 4.5 year old finished it in about one month with some adult guidance. If you truly wanted your child to do this completely independently, then I would wait to age 5 to start this. Just a note to buyers--this book uses colors that are outside the usually 8 color crayons crayon color range. You will need a box of 64 colors to complete the color by numbers in order to do the blue violet, red orange, yellow green, and blue green colors that are part of the book.

I like the Kumar uppercase and lower case letters and maze books for my 3 yr old. This says ages 4-5-6 so I understand it's not his age group but there's only 2 activities. The other books have more variety (different activities on each page whereas this is only color by number and connect the dots).

Absolutely love this product. My four year old son was having difficulty counting past 50 but once he started working in this book he was able to count to 150 in no time at all. He loved this book and completed several pages each day. This was our introduction to Kumon which we enjoyed so much that I bought several other Kumon books.

I love to use these Kumon workbooks with my First Graders. They love them too. Each page has too sides. One side is a challenging connect the dot with great images. The connect the dots are great for developing numeracy skills. Usually connect the dots are so obvious that it doesn't really challenge the kids' numeracy skills but not with these. They really have to think about which number comes next since they don't usually know what the picture is. It is also really useful for developing fine motor skills. The back of the page is a picture that is revealed by the children coloring numbered boxes with a particular color. In other words they will color all the 71's violet-blue, all the 73's midnight blue. As the color a picture emerges. The kids are always thrilled to tell me what the picture is. As you can imagine, these coloring activities are great for teaching numbers and colors.

I love the more complex dot to dot. They start with 1-70 and eventually go from 1 -150. On one side there is this and the other side of the sheet are color by number which my daughter is NOT interested in.

This book has great engaging games and exercises to help learn numbers. My 5-year old has trouble identifying double digit numbers but the tracing and finding numbers in this book have helped him learning in a more fun way.

My 3 y/o loves all the kumon books and this one is no exception. She's learning how to count and the games, though somewhat challenging for her are fun.

Great dot-to-dots and color by numbers. Good fit for my 4 year old.
