I haven't played bridge for decades and wanted to take it up again, so I bought this summary as a way to refresh my memory. It was useful to a degree, but I did not find it to be entirely up to date as far as the current style of bidding and playing is concerned. Fortunately, a friend who is a bridge fanatic was kind enough to write out and share with me her shorter version of current point counting and playing, which I found much easier to understand and follow.

This provides a quick reference on how to bid. I recommend Audrey Grant's book 'Bridge Basics 1: An Introduction (The Official Better Bridge Series)' because the 2 go together. The book teaches and gives you excellent examples and exercises and 'Bridge at a Glance' is a quick reference to what you learned in the book. As a beginner, I am using it when I play to help me remember what to bid.

This small guide is ideal for anyone learning to play bridge or brushing up on long unused skills. I also use the Audrey Grant program for learning bridge, so they work well together. However, this little guide is very useful on its own.It provides a reference for play or practice.Audrey Grant's books can be used in conjunction with this guide, but again, it can be used without them.I recommend this quick reference for anyone wanting to hone his/her bridge playing skills.Over a year later - I bought another of these handy guides, since I gave the first one to a friend who liked using it. I rely a lot on this.

Partners often argue about one bid but can't see how it fits into a bidding system, i.e., the big picture.This is great for negotiations with Partner. It presents entire subsystems in the space of a 3x5 card (e.g., Responding to 2NT -or- Advancing a Takeout).Also great when my mind goes blank after sitting at the table for two hours. It provides a quick refresher between rounds. It uses a basic version of Two Over One. I recommend it for players with about 100MPs. Probably too simple for 400MPs.

This answers a lot of Bridge bidding questions in a visual, easy-to-understand way. Highly recommended for all beginning and intermediate players of the world's best game!UPDATE: I have now purchased two of these because they keep falling apart! I highly urge the publisher to look at better binding and a heavy-duty cover. Paper and staples just doesn't "cut" it for a carry-around reference. I would give the binding 1 star. The guide is excellent, however and I would be happy to pay more for better quality binding and cover.

I've tried many cheat sheets to try to learn how to bid correctly and communicate with my Bridge partner, but none were very good. This book is a great resource and is easy to read and understand. The group that I'm playing with all have these and we're getting better at bidding correctly because of this book.

I give it 5 stars for content but it deserves 1 star or less for the durability of the pamphlet. Therefore as a compromise I have given it 3 stars. I have had mine for 3 months and although I have been careful in my handling of it, it has completely fallen apart. I did make a color copy, but the copy is not easy to use, because of the "tabbed" nature of the pamphlet. Surely it cannot be that hard to make a sturdier product. Mine is now unusable and I find that very annoying.

This bridge guide is by Audrey Grant, who is a well known, strong bridge player. The guide is a little hard to get familiar with, but it is worth the time! This is a great guide for any serious bridge player. Transfers, strong 2 club, many other things are covered. I have already worn out one copy, and I have given two copies away to some of my bridge friends.

This is a great book not only for beginners but for intermediate players too. I bought one for myself and brought it to my bridge club.Ii ended up ordering one for almost every member of the club. The book is really small and packed with useful bidding charts. it takes you not just from opening bids and responses but through follow-up bidding as well. If you are looking for explanations this is not the book. This little pamphlet is almost entirely bidding charts.

It's alright. Was looking for one song and thought it was one in this book but ended up not being it. But I enjoy some of the song in this none the less! Seems like a good book for beginners or for people like me trying to get back into playing after years of not.

You know I first read the 2000 edition of this book in my local library. I loved it so much I decided to purchase it for myself. I enjoyed the pictures and region specific information. When I noticed there was a 2015 edition, I figured I better get the new edition to take advantage of any new material. Well they didn't add anything. Come to find out, the publisher reprinted the book in china, resized all the beautiful pictures, changed the topographic style regional maps to ones with hardly any detail, and completely removed much of the content. I don't know how they can call it the same book?? The section on murano glass gone. The section on the specialty markets in Milan gone. The section detailing Italian menu and kitchen terminology gone. That is just the first 3 chapters. I am so upset and plan on writing the publisher directly. I guess by changing the name a little and adding the "Celebration of Food and Tradition" as a sub title they can do that. They should call it a "celebration of corporate greed"

And this is a lovely exploration of the various regions of Italy, from the Dolomites to the toe of the boot! There are photographs throughout, beautiful spreads identifying the cheeses and sausages of each region, the seafood of the Venice lagoon, the wines throughout, not to mention snippets of history, restaurants, social custom, holidays...it's beautiful. The one complaint I have is the rather small typeface used throughout the volume. It doesn't help either that it is a sans serif style, which reading analysis always shows is less easy to visually process and comprehend than a typeface with serifs. The type also lends a bit of a cold, techno feeling to the presentation. Considering the book seems to have been designed by a Swiss house, perhaps that's why it happened. It remains a lovely book for any collection of world cuisine, and cooking in general.

I have loved the CULINARIA series from the very first volume that I was given as a gift. If you are interested in lerning the history and culture of Italy by learning about the food eaten there, this is the book for you.The book is divided into chapters by geographic regions. Each region is described by the physical features that make it unique, the foods and ingredients that are special to it, and recipes are given for the dishes that define it. There are abundant sidebars about significant topics either historical, political or cultural in the region that have shaped the food or people.Then there is the photography. Beautiful photographs of the landscape, detailed photographic charts of ingredients, appetizingly displayed prepared dishes, step-by-step series showing ingredients being made, and people lovingly portrayed going about their daily lives.This book is BIG, no bedtime reading with this one, you won't be able to hold it up! If you love cookbooks for the way they tell the story of a country, the CULINARIA Italy is not to be missed.

This has rather small print font in it, for the recipes. It's not terrible for at the moment (I'm 26, and I'm okay with highlighting in my cookbooks, and I always read through a recipe a couple times before I attempt it), but it will be a serious problem for those who like larger fonts. This looks almost like an 7 font size, and it's NOT easy to read in anything less than excellent light (I compared it to an 8 in Bookman Old Style).The book itself is quite nice, however, full of awesome information and recipes.

I have been a fan of the CULINARIA series of books (European Specialties, Spain, France, The Caribbean, Hungary, Germany, to name a few). CULINARIA's Italy is their newest addition. What set the series apart from the rest of the food market cookbooks (it is almost inaccurate to call them "cookbooks" since the emphasis here is never on the recipes) is not the superb full color photographs of almost clinical detail of the various foods, food groups, regional specialties, food processes and products typical of the regions being explored, or the carefully written essays on the subjects being covered, or the cultural authenticity of the selections and the approach taken to covering the issues presented.What really differentiates these books is the love and the caring that is obvious that the editors have employed to produce every single entry into the series. All the CULINARIA books have a polished look to them, but they are more than mere glossy coffee table books (although I must admit that they look really good anywhere u place them!);they are veritable reference sources of not only the food but also of the culture of the nations and regions they explore.A veritable cornucopia of information, these books are the kind of books that can be cherished for a long time. The "Italy" book is one more jewel in the crown. Keep them coming!

I like the Culinaria series. I have the Greek and Hungarian books also. Not the best cookbooks but certainly have most recipes and provide interesting backgrounds on the history and cultures of food from a particular country.

This is my 3rd book from the Culinaria series. The other two are about Germany and France. I just ordered this one but it hasn't arrived yet. But I saw it at a bookstore and flipped through it. Loved what I saw. I'm sure I'll keep it on my coffee table for a while, it's just too good to put it on a shelf.

Beautiful books, sort useless as a guide...but lovely nonetheless. Leave it out to impress your guest but go elsewhere to understand the heart and soul of Italian cooking.

I understand why Eric Davis wrote this for men about sons. This book is so much more than that, however. It's not only one of the best parenting books I've ever read, it's a book all educators, coaches, and civic club leaders must read. Even if you don't have kids, you'll love this personal journey filled with motivation, leadership training, and success tactics practiced by Eric and his fellow SEAL instructors.Not everyone will be able to do the SEAL stuff, but everyone can do this: spend more time building relationships with your kids, refuse to be or allow children around "dream killers," and instill confidence in your children or any child you encounter by believing in and demanding the best from them--and modeling the same."Raising Men" made me want to push myself more, not just for my son, but for myself, too.

This was simply a phenomenal book on fatherhood. All of Eric's stories made me feel like an inadequate dad but I'm okay with that because it motivated me to work on myself. Enter this book without the ego and with an open mind and you're sure to walk away a different man.

I was hoping for more. The book itself is entertaining but Im skeptical on how much useful information there is on parenting. For instance, the son doesn't want to do his homework so navy seal dad smashes his skateboard and throws the ps4 into the pool and makes the son jump in to get it... a little extreme. The book is more seal stories than parenting advice.

Couple chapters in and I was hooked. I served in the Navy as well and use/have used many of the principles I was taught while serving in raising my 3 kids. Discipline, accountability, neatness, physical fitness, self control, attention to detail, loyalty, and teamwork to name just a few. Raising young boys to become fine young men doesn't happen by accident. You need a plan, and it takes effort...every day, even when YOU don't feel like it. This book will help you develop your own plan that meets your needs.

I get the marketing appeal by naming the book “Raising Men”, but I found it to be applicable if you are “raising men or women”.In fact, Eric himself has daughters and uses very good examples applicable to girls.This book has many valuable guidelines to help your kids develop confidence, responsibility, respect, courage and discipline, which are essential qualities that require consistency, discipline and leadership by ourselves, the parents.In summary, a very good book.

I enjoyed this book... a lot. It's a whole new perspective of how to do this (parenting) the best way we possibly can by improving ourselves first. I learned many valuable concepts and lessons, not necessarily parenting-related.And I also think it can be applied to any kid, regardless the gender.

One of the best books I have read on being a better parent and a better person. My wife is reading it now too I enjoyed it so much. Eric knows his stuff and this book is one I will go back through time and time again.
