*UPDATES BELOW INITIAL REVIEW*If you can get your hands on this guide, do it before they go out of print! At the price they're selling it for it's more than worth it. EBay already has listings for this guide going for more than double the preorder and current price, we're talking in the $40-$200 range.With 144 additional pages of content, this stunning extended guide really helps you utilize and maximize everything the game has to offer and there is a lot to this game even before DLC. It could not have come at a better time. The deluxe guide I've been using is just massive and can't really hold it's own weight unless set on our coffee table. Didn't want to add too much wear due to over usage. All of the extras added to this book are so informative and detailed making it perfect for those completionist players. There's been a little bit of an adjustment after looking at larger text, pictures, and maps in the deluxe guide. The added artwork is absolutely beautiful and the map insert will most certainly be making it's way into a frame.The shipping for this guide, at least for me, was garbage. Apparently, shipping this guide in a padded envelope bag seemed like the best option to those at Amazon distribution center in New Jersey. I considered exchanging it for another one in hopes it doesn't come to me all banged up. Chances are we would just risk getting another book with even more damage than the first one. Luckily, only one back corner has any real, noticeable damage. If I am able, I will try to buy directly from the publisher if possible. Barnes and Noble as well as Books-A-Million is also an option. It has been my experience that heavy, hardcover books being sent by Amazon usually are not shipped with care.*UPDATE - February 16th* After leaving my review I was contacted by someone with Piggyback in the comment section of my review (I have only been able to view the comment section of reviews when using a desktop computer). They requested that I email them directly regarding my shipping issue that I had with this guide. After emailing them with my issue and sending them photos of damage done to my guide I received a response within less than 24 hours from the publisher offering to replace my copy. My customer experience with the publisher regarding this issue has been superb thus far.*UPDATE - March 6th* To my delight and surprise I received my replacement copy directly from Simon & Schuster today. This came as a surprise, after my initial email exchange with the publisher regarding sending me a replacement I didn't receive any further correspondence as to the progress or that the replacement had shipped. I knew it would take time and I'm sure they have their hands full with other cases like mine. The guide book was delivered in a box with thick paper insulating the book during shipping. Came in perfect, collectable condition. As of now, I have not been asked to send back my damaged guide.The last 4 photos uploaded are of the replacement copy I received.
Wow I'm so glad I waited for this guide and pre ordered it, as it's the updated one for Breath of the Wild that includes the DLC packs. I'm a stickler for details and this book definitely has it. The colors, chapters, and also the included map are amazing and of high quality visuals. I'm by no means a hardcore Zelda Fan, but this guide is a must have. The binding and production of the book reminds me of a college textbook for a course! The content is very well written and easy to follow for novices or advanced players and has plenty of tips and tricks. The guide is so meaty that it'll definitely take hours to read from start to finish, but if not, it's easy to find specific chapters and other references.
This expanded Collector's Edition Guide (includes both DLC packs) is a very high quality book. Also, (unlike the unfortunate early orders) this book arrived in excellent condition. It was definitely much better protected as the outside of the box showed that the delivery service took a couple shots at trying to damage the corners; but the book came out unharmed. Overall, it is a high quality book, well bound, excellent paper quality with crisp (but small) printing. While the print in the book really is small, I can still handle it easily with my reading glasses on.But the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 stars is the detailing/lettering seems incredibly small on the LARGE 2-sided Map! Even the legend on the left hand column of the map has incredibly small lettering. (I also now realize, by seeing the map, just how large in scope this game really is).Another reason the map is hard to read is due to the DARK coloring of the overall map. Dark browns & blues just make it harder to pick out the geography without the use of some sort of magnifier. Also, the village names, and the various icons indicating items of interest are difficult to read without a magnifier (even though those names/icons are in white or red, which contrast well against the dark background).One last thing, when I get the time to actually play the game, I am definitely going to have something sturdy to set this guide on while playing, as the weight of this thing is substantial; so there's no way I want it setting on my lap for any extended amount of time and still be able to play the game. It is a 'coffee table quality book', and it weighs accordingly. Short of having the whole thing converted to an 'e-guide' format, that I could download onto my laptop computer to refer to, I see no way around the weight and font size issues. But for collectors, it makes a beautiful addition to your Zelda Guides collection.I hope my impressions/observations were helpful for others pondering the purchase of this guide. (coming from this nearly 70 yr. old Zelda fan.)
Unbelievably high detail guide. A casual gamer like myself could probably spend the rest of my life playing this game using this guide. Was disappointed that it came in nothing more than a padded envelope though, so caution collectors!
Aside from the content this book is trash. It’s been a week or two since I got it. Pages are already falling apart. Let it be known I’ve been carefully using the book. It has no reason for the pages to fall out so easily. I’m already on taping in my 3rd pages, with I’m sure more to follow. Maybe I just got a bad batch, but honestly they probably rushed to make these so fast, quality was there last concern. Great content. Terrible quality of the binding holding the pages in.
